Manufacturers of premium vehicles have been offering SUVs for years, and Bentley is thinking time might be ripe for an ultraluxury marque to produce an SUV.

Bentley introduced its vision of an SUV — the EXP 9 F concept — at the Geneva International Salon d’Auto. The automaker bills it as a vehicle that “feels equally at home at an opera gala performance, on the sand dunes and the overtaking lane of the autobahn.”

 What might turn out to be Bentley’s third model line, alongside the flagship Mulsanne and the high-performance Continental GT, GTC and Flying Spur, the EXP 9 F, Bentley says, will address the needs of an increasingly diverse customer base.

 This “pure Bentley,” the automaker reports, features reinterpretations of key Bentley styling cues such as the matrix grille, round lamps and the strong power-line and haunch along each flank. “The `hewn from solid’ design language and innovative detailing, emphasize the robust character of this high-luxury SUV.”
